Position Summary

The IT Technician Class II is a mid-level hybrid role that combines IT support, industrial automation, and facility systems work. This position is responsible for advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, and integration of the District’s IT, SCADA, PLC, and facility infrastructure. The role supports both office and field operations, ensures operational continuity during normal conditions, and provides critical technical response during storm and emergency pumping events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

IT and Network Infrastructure Lead

  • Deployment and Management: Configure, install, and maintain workstations, peripherals, and operating systems including Windows, macOS, and Linux.
  • System Health: Perform routine checks, apply security patches, manage backups, and maintain inventory.
  • Network Resolution: Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues, Ethernet cabling, IP addressing, and peripheral synchronization.
  • Support: Serve as first point of contact for hardware and software help desk issues.

Industrial Automation SCADA and PLC

  • System Integration: Wire, program, and test instruments and control systems (sensors, transmitters, gauges) to technical specifications.
  • Advanced Troubleshooting: Monitor SCADA interfaces, respond to high-level alarms, and diagnose PLC I/O faults.
  • Data Integrity: Calibrate instruments, verify accurate readings, and produce technical reports for leadership.

Electrical and Electronics

  • Circuit Testing: Use a digital multimeter to test continuity, AC/DC voltage, and resistance.
  • Component Repair: Replace fuses, breakers, switches, and outlets safely.
  • Wire Termination: Strip, crimp, and label wiring to maintain organized control panels.

 

Fleet Management

  • Asset Care: Maintain a company vehicle, perform pre-trip checks, and keep accurate mileage and service logs.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Technical Proficiencies: TCP/IP networking, security protocols, data backup strategies, and scripting.
  • Automation Knowledge: Familiarity with PLC hardware and ability to interpret I/O status indicators and faults.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication within crew environments.
  • Physical Requirement: Ability to lift 60+ lbs., push, pull, and climb as required.

Education Experience and Licensure

  • Work History: At least 2 years of verifiable experience in Industrial IT Maintenance or IT Support.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in IT/Computer Science or technical certificate in Industrial Maintenance/Electronics (CompTIA A+, Network+) preferred.
  • License: Valid Commercial Driver’s License required or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

Working Conditions and Readiness

  • Storm Duty: Mandatory participation in storm duty and emergency pumping operations across any of the three shifts, weekends, and holidays during flood events.
  • On-Call: Participate in an on-call rotation (every third week) and be able to respond to the District within 30 minutes.
  • Environment: Work performed indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures, high humidity, and occasionally in confined spaces.
