Utility Worker

The Velasco Drainage District utility worker position.

 

Job requirements are to be qualified to operate a 100 hp tractor with a 15′ bat wing

mower using safe operating practices on and off public roads. They are responsible for the

maintenance of multiple pieces of equipment, keeping general maintenance logs, and they

must be reliable. A utility worker may be assigned to assist operators as instructed for any

work done by the District, including manual labor.

Duties may also include pump station duties during rain events, tropical storms, and work

in hurricane situations.

A utility worker must make satisfactory progress toward qualifying for the Class 3 Operator

classification. Must be able to obtain a Texas Class B License.

 

Responsibilities: · Daily mowing operations · Report to work at regular starting time to get equipment, tools and fuel required for the day’s work. Secure all equipment safely · Confirm they are equipped with proper safety equipment such as protective eyewear, gloves and earplugs · Should be ready to leave once all crew members are ready · Perform all tasks of operations including, but not limited to, mowing, line trimming, blowing and debris removal · Responsible for unloading all equipment, clean out truck/trailer by removing trash, debris, etc. daily. · Report damaged equipment to mowing manager or mechanic immediately. · High attention to detail. · Assist with pump stations. Requirements: · Available to work a varied schedule (when on call or as needed) in all adverse weather conditions. · Valid/Current Texas Driver’s License · Ability to lift 60 lbs + throughout the day.
