The Velasco Drainage District assumed the operations and maintenance of the Midway Dow Pump Station when the District accepted the Freeport & Vicinity Hurricane Levee System from the Corp of Engineers in 1978. The station has an electric pump that is capable of pumping 40,000 gallons per minute.
