The construction of North Freeport Pump station started in August 1985 with the bid being awarded to Patterson Pump Company for a contract price of $1,174,572.00 for the equipment and the equipment project was completed in 730 calendar days.

The contract for construction of the station was awarded to Cajun Contractors for $2,553,000.00 in October of 1987. North Freeport Pump Station diesel driven pumps are capable of pumping 320,000 gallons per minute. The station also has an electric pump that is capable of pumping 50,000 gallons per minute.
