The contract for construction of the station was awarded to Delta Construction Company for $926,569.00 in June of 1972 and took 450 calendar days to complete. (March 1974) Velasco Pump Station has three diesel pumps which are capable of pumping 210,000 gallons per minute. The station also has one electric pump that is capable of pumping 60,000 gallons per minute.
